Port d’Aro is a beautiful marina on the Costa Brava that penetrates inland to create mooring channels, set about with apartment buildings. From the balconies you can touch the sails of the yachts, see the silvery sparkle of the water and smell the salty tang. They are apartments moored on the shore and those who buy them want to live in close contact with the sea. This has been the leitmotiv of the various blocks we have been building in the area during the last ten years.
The apartments take advantage of every inch of space, and all have large terraces to enjoy open-air living, and large doors and windows, to let the seascape come inside, making the most of the light, while still providing protection from the sun. In the basement, close to the water-table, a system of convenient car-parks connects directly with the apartments, and above there is the use of the flat roof to create large terraces that serve as gardens and vantage-points. The facade consists of a skin of white brickwork, also pointed in white, which conveys a bright, maritime atmosphere, and which furthermore reflects solar radiation to keep the interiors cool. The white surfacing of the bricks does not require painting and guarantees the appearance will be preserved without deterioration or the need for maintenance. This facing has become a signature for the area, pursuing harmony in spite of the varied organisation of each block.
