The commission consisted of designing, down to the last detail, an entertainment centre with a macrodisco for the famous Pachá chain. Our experience was drawn from a few bar refurbishments and a great deal of theoretical knowledge acquired during long nights in discos. But now the dimensions were enormous, a great red ship landing on deserted land in Vila-Seca to pull in Earthlings with a penchant for fun. The walls sloped—this was before deconstructivism—not for aesthetic reasons, but so as to contain less volume and reduce the area of the expensive roof, which was thus cut down to a half. At the end of the day people dance on the floor, don’t they? That’s where the largest surface area is. A large steel structure minimised the columns with their beams. Inside, bars inspired by water, fire, earth and air, all very inventive! And then there was the dance floor, over a swimming-pool, with glass paving. Condensation clouded the views of alleged crocodiles—mechanical ones—skulking beneath the dancers…
